In this master’s essay I reflect upon connections and disconnections betweenknowledge and practice, theory and phenomena.I investigate this through encounters with scientific practice, the context of themodern worker, philosophy and in relation to my own artistic practice. The text’sdifferent parts are not built on each other as a continuous analysis with a conclusionat the end; rather, they are a collection of reflections upon different themes that havecertain meeting points, and which are all relevant to my work. In other words thedifferent parts function as minor essays that swoop down on facts, ideas, themesand phenomena that I find pertinent in relation to my practice.

[I examensarbetet ingår utställningen "Occupational knots":]

This group of works is titled “Occupational Knots” after a chapter in Clifford W. Ashley’s “The Ashley Book of Knots” (1944). The book contains nearly 4.000 practical knots, and the chapter referred to lists a variety of \r\n\r\noccupations from the archer to the yachtsman alongside recommendations on which nodes are most useful \r\n\r\nfor whom. The sculptures are accompanied by a fanzine ascribing them to selected occupations, and further \r\n\r\nto Mathematical Knot Theory, a topological hypothesis intending to classify all substances in a comprehensive tabulation system.
